Minister of Finance participates in the meeting of the African Group Governors of the World Bank and the IMF in Nigeria.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 6 August 2024 (Lana) GNU Minister of Finance, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, participated in the meeting of African Group Governors of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) (African Caucus), which was held in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, during the period from August 1 to 3.
The meeting, which was held under the slogan "Facilitating Trade Among African Countries and Stimulating Sustainable Development in Africa," was opened by the Nigerian Prime Minister, representing the Nigerian President, and was attended by Ministers of Finance, Governors of Central Banks in African countries, and many senior officials from regional and international development finance institutions.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the meetings discussed many important issues, such as facilitating trade and supporting regional integration among African countries, as well as digital transformation in the continent and its effect on development and improvement of payment systems, in addition to the ways to benefit from the services provided by international and regional development institutions.
After three days of discussions, the African Group Governors of the Brighton and Woods Foundations issued the Abuja Declaration, in which they stressed the importance of intra-African trade as a catalyst for sustainable development and the role of sustainable finance in promoting economic development, and they expressed their commitment to strengthening the payment system across Africa.
They also highlighted the need to empower the private sector and strengthen its partnership with the public sector, and the participants urged all regional and international institutions to increase support for African countries in line with achieving the sustainable development goals.
