Awal Municipality records an exceptional precedent in the percentage of women’s registration in municipal council elections.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, July 10, 2024 (LANA) - The High Electoral Commission reported today, Wednesday, that the municipality of Awal - southwestern Libya - witnessed an exceptional precedent in the percentage of women’s registration in municipal council elections.
The Commission explained in a statement that registration statistics in the municipality of Awal recorded an increase in the percentage of women’s registration over the percentage of men’s registration, which has not happened in the voter registry for municipal council elections before.
She confirmed that the registration rate of women reached 53% of the total number of those registered in the voter register of the municipality of Awal, while the registration rate of men reached 47% of the total number of registered people in the same municipality, according to the latest statistics of yesterday, Tuesday, July 10, 2024.
The Commission praised the Women's Support Unit and the efforts of the female electoral awareness ambassadors in the municipality of Awal for their efforts, especially in the door-knocking campaign, where the female ambassadors went, despite the hot weather, to residential neighborhoods and homes in order to communicate directly with women to motivate them to register.
For its part, the Women’s Support Unit highly appreciated the sense of national responsibility undertaken by Awal Women in their response to the registration stage.
The unit called on all women in the rest of the targeted municipalities to seize the opportunity to register during the remaining period, noting that the last day of the registration phase is the end of Saturday, July 13, at 11:59 p.m.
