Trabelsi stresses the necessity of securing the southern borders.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, July 10, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of the Interior of the National Unity Government, Major General, Imad Trabelsi, stressed the necessity of securing the southern borders to eliminate the main sources of illegal immigration.
This came during the joint press conference held by Trabelsi with the Minister of Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, today, Wednesday, regarding the Mediterranean Forum, which is scheduled to be held on the 17th of this month in the capital, Tripoli.
Al-Trabelsi said, according to what was published by the Ministry of the Interior, that this conference came after several international visits regarding the immigration file and its residency in the capital, Tripoli, with Libya being the owner of the project.
The Minister of Interior continued, "We have focused on this file because of the threat it represents to the national, economic, and social security of the Libyan state," pointing out that the Libyan state has suffered a lot from the phenomenon of migration, and it has increased over the past ten years.
Trabelsi announced the preparation of a police force of 5,000 policemen to help secure the borders, stressing that Libya is a transit country and not the destination, and we will not allow it to be a place of settlement for migrants.
The designated Minister of the Interior indicated that the number of workers present in Libya is approximately 2.5 million people, most of whom entered across the border without visas.
Trabelsi stressed that the immigration issue is thorny and everyone must stand up to address it, and Libya will not continue to pay the price for this issue.
