Al-Lafi: It is time to design a national strategy to advance the medical and pharmaceutical industries in the country

Tripoli, July 7, 2024 (LANA) - Representative of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, said that the time has come to begin designing a national strategy to advance the medical and pharmaceutical industries in the country in a way that ensures broad participation between the public and private sectors to implement this strategy.

This came in a speech during his participation yesterday, Saturday, in the opening of the activities of the Libyan Conference and the First International Pharmacy Exhibition in Tripoli, which is supervised by the Pharmacy Department, in the Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health-designate, “Ramadan Abu Jannah,” and the Minister of Economy, “Mohamed Al-Hawaij.” Members of the House of Representatives and the State House, and a number of specialists and academics in the field of health.

Al-Lafi stressed in his speech that this conference is important in the process of the medical and drug industry in our country, and we look forward to recommendations that will provide practical guidance to establish a base for the pharmaceutical industry and develop quality standards in the supply and manufacture of medicine and medical supplies to support the state’s capabilities. Libya, in the face of the increasing needs for medical supply items, which health services cannot improve unless they are available, in quantity and quality.

 Al-Lafi stressed the necessity of defining standards that guarantee the quality of medicines and medical supplies, to protect the consumer, and to ensure the effectiveness of the medicine in treating the disease, urging the experts participating in this conference to review this issue, discuss it in depth and extensively, to find a treatment for it, and set rules. Strict procedures that ensure the availability of medicine that conforms to quality and efficiency standards, while paying attention to scientific research.

A number of local and international companies specialized in the pharmaceutical industry participated in the exhibition activities accompanying this conference.
