New York, June 19, 2024 (LANA) - Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, confirmed that external interference is the main cause of the country’s crisis.

He said in his speech before the international security session on Libya today, Wednesday, “We are tired of the stagnation and lectures about what we should do. We are tired of the use of Libya by regional countries and other countries.”

The Libyan delegate continued, "The Libyans no longer take into account the Security Council sessions, which did not provide anything to contribute to resolving the Libyan crisis."

Al-Sunni stressed that national reconciliation is the important basis from which all other paths can start.

Al-Tahir Al-Sunni added that three years have passed since 2.8 million Libyans registered on the election lists and are still waiting for them to be held, stressing that the Libyan people deserve to get clear answers about the obstacle to the political path.

He called on the Libyans to find a consensus formula to prepare a clear road map that leads to holding elections according to fair laws, demanding that the solution be left exclusively for the Libyans to move towards ending the political impasse.

Al-Sunni pointed out that Stephanie Khoury’s briefing confirms that, there is nothing new in the political process and the political stalemate has become clear, stressing the importance of taking into account the importance of completing the political path from where it ended and building on the points that were agreed upon.

Al-Sunni said, "We got old and tired of this stagnation and this closed cycle that has continued for a decade. We are old and tired of the inaction of this council, and I believe that the time has come to leave Libya as it is."

The Libyan representative to the United Nations called for the implementation of everything stated in the military track agreement and the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
