Opening two stations of waste collection and sorting and composting.

Janzor, June 13, 2024 (LANA) - The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council in the Ministry of Local Government, “Nasr Al-Mahtout,” and the Mayor of the Municipality of Janzor, “Fathe Bin Issa,” today, Thursday, inaugurated the waste collection and sorting station, and the organic composting station in the municipality.

 According to the Ministry of Local Government, the opening was attended by the European Union envoy to Libya, the German Deputy Ambassador, and the Director General of the German Foundation for Technical Cooperation’s program to support municipalities in Libya, in addition to representatives of the Solid and Liquid Waste Management and the Ministry’s International Cooperation Office.

The Secretary-General confirmed, that the opening of the station comes within the framework of Libyan-German cooperation within the projects of the third phase of the municipal support program in Libya, which is implemented by the German Foundation for International Cooperation, with funding from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which aims to support the waste management system and enhance Circular economy in Libya.

Al-Mahtoot added, that this new station will play an important role in improving the management of waste generated in the region, especially from the daily public market for vegetables, fruits and agricultural products in the municipality, with the aim of recycling these wastes and converting them into organic fertilizer to be used later to enhance soil fertility, in addition to preserving environment and promoting sustainability and circular economy in the region.
