Algeria, June 10, 2024 (LANA) - The person in charge of running the affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity, “Taher Al-Baour,” reaffirmed the State of Libya’s keenness to support African efforts to highlight the pivotal role of the African Union’s position towards the continent’s issues, especially the reform of the UN Security Council in accordance with the Ozulwini consensus - and the Sirte Declaration, in light of the challenges and rapid changes

This came during his participation today, Monday, in the meeting of the eleventh session of the ministerial meeting of the Committee of Ten of the African Union concerned with Security Council reform, held in the Algerian capital.

In his speech during the meeting, Al-Baour expressed the importance of coordinating collective action to achieve the ambitions and aspirations of the African continent.

It is noteworthy that the unified African position on reform of the UN Security Council is embodied in the “Ozolwini” agreement that Africa is entitled to permanent membership in the UN Security Council, and in the Sirte Declaration, which represents an action plan and stipulates granting two permanent seats and five non-permanent seats to the African continent in the UN Security Council. .

 During his meeting yesterday, Sunday, on the sidelines of the “C10” summit of the African Union, which is concerned with reforming the UN Security Council, “Al-Baour” discussed with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, issues of common interest and developments in the local and regional situation, and intensifying coordination and consultation efforts in a way that serves The interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The meeting also discussed activating the Consular Affairs Committee between the two countries, and focusing on the importance of regularly convening the Border Committee and following up on the implementation of the results assigned to it.

It is noteworthy that Libya is a permanent member of the Ministerial Committee of Ten African Foreign Ministers (C-10), which was established in 2005.
