Abu-Shnaf meets with Koury.

Benghazi, June 4, 2024 (Lana) The Libyan National Security Advisor, Counselor Ibrahim Abu-Shnaf, discussed yesterday in Benghazi with Deputy Special Representatives of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Acting Head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, ways to get out of the current impasse and advance the political process.

The two parties discussed efforts to advance the political process by creating suitable conditions for holding a free and transparent election and making its results acceptable to all.

The two sides affirmed the importance of building consensus among all concerned parties to move forward towards holding elections that meet the Libyans' aspirations to choose their leaders and renew the legitimacy of their institutions.

Abu-Shnaf presented the Libyan National Security Council’s vision for the solution in Libya, stressing the Council’s commitment to providing all support for the success of the mission’s work.

For her part, Koury stressed UNSMIL's commitment to work with all Libyans in order to achieve sustainable stability in Libya and unify its national institutions, stressing the extreme importance of national ownership of a political process sponsored by the UN and supported by the International Community in a coordinated manner.
