Tripoli, June 3, 2024 (Lana): The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Acting Head of UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, stressed the importance of holding peaceful elections that meet the Libyans' aspirations to choose their leadership and renew the legitimacy of their institutions.

This came during her meeting yesterday in Al-Qubba with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agila Saleh, according to her X Page.

"We discussed the ongoing stalemate and ways to advance the political process, including creating conducive conditions for free and fair elections with results acceptable to all," Koury said.

"I emphasized the importance of building consensus among all stakeholders to move towards peaceful elections, meeting Libyans’ aspirations to choose their leadership, and renewing the legitimacy of their institutions," she added.
