In the presence of 84 Chinese companies: Al-Dbaiba inaugurates the first Chinese-Libyan Economic Forum in Beijing.

Beijing, May 31, 2024 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dbaiba, opened in the Chinese capital, Beijing, today, Friday, the work of the first Chinese-Libyan Economic Forum under the slogan “Libya-China are partners in development and reconstruction,” in the presence of 84 Chinese companies working in the fields of various directors of the government’s executive agencies.

The media office of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government said that “Al-Dbaiba” stressed in the speech he delivered at the opening of the forum the role of China in the reconstruction taking place in Libya, and the necessity of focusing on resuming the suspended projects, contracting them with Chinese companies, and considering it the first stage of joint cooperation. Pointing out that there are currently more than 23,000 Chinese workers in Libya, after their number was only 5,000 during the past years.

The office added, that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Commercial Affairs, Suhail Abu Shiha, for his part, gave a presentation in which he explained the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, and the economic and investment opportunities available to leading companies, in addition to the indicators of growth witnessed by Libya, according to reports from the International Monetary Fund during recent years.

The directors of the executive agencies also presented the development projects targeted within the plan to restore life, a technical and financial analysis of the projects contracted with Chinese companies, and implementation priorities.

A number of Chinese companies presented technical presentations showing their areas of work and similar projects in a number of countries around the world.

According to the media office of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, one of the most important recommendations of the forum was the necessity of continuing communication between Libya and China, politically and technically, to address the difficulties and problems facing the full return of Chinese companies, and to agree to hold the second forum in the capital, Tripoli, next October.

The office indicated that “Dbaiba” discussed during his political meetings with Chinese officials the return of Chinese companies to work in Libya, overcoming the difficulties they face, the return of the Chinese embassy to work in Tripoli, and the activation of its commercial department to assume the role of coordination and communication with the relevant Libyan ministries.
