MOF and EU delegations discuss cooperation in securing borders.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, May 29, 2024 (Lana): Director of the European Affairs Department, Abdul Rahman Khamadeh, discussed yesterday with a delegation of the European Union Commission headed by Ruth Kaufman, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Office in the European Commission’s External Action Department, bilateral relations between Libya and the EU and ways to strengthen them in the area of securing and managing the borders and combating terrorism and cross-border crime.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Kaufman, during the meeting, which was attended by the Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Libya (EUBAM), commended the efforts made by the Libyan side, affirming the desire and readiness of the EU Commission to strengthen cooperation with the Libyan side and provide support for the competent Libyan authorities to confront the challenges they face.
Kaufman confirmed that this visit is considered an evaluation visit to review the activities and programs implemented by the EUBAM.
For his side, Khamadeh expressed the MOF's aspirations to strengthen relations and bilateral cooperation with the EU to confront challenges caused by the migration phenomenon, stressing that the EU is an important partner for Libya in its efforts to combat illegal migration.
The EU Commission delegation is conducting an official three-day visit to Libya from May 27 to 30.
