Al-Sayeh meets Stephanie Khoury on her first visit to the High Elections Commission

Tripoli, May 27, 2024 (LANA) - The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission, Imad Al-Sayeh, met today, Monday, with the Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Stephanie Khoury, and her accompanying delegation, in the first visit of the mission’s representative to the Commission’s office in Tripoli.

The meeting, which comes within the framework of the international community’s support for the elections in Libya, discussed the procedures related to preparing for the municipal council elections, the launch of which will be announced early next month.

The two sides reviewed the positions of the political parties on the electoral process in general, and municipal council elections in particular, and the impact of these positions on the possibility of their implementation and chances of success, as well as the extent to which the executive authority contributes to supporting the efforts made by the Commission to put the process of electing municipal councils into practice, and what it provides such as financial and security support.

According to the official website of the Commission, the meeting also touched on the challenges facing the support project managed by the United Nations Development Program in Libya, and taking urgent decisions regarding advancing the project to support the process of electing municipal councils.
