Minister of Local Government participates in the International Forum in Sorrento, Italy.
Pulbished on:Rome, May 18, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of Local Government of the Government of National Unity, Badr El-Din Al-Toumi, participated in the third edition of the International Forum “Looking South”, which was held in the Italian city of Sorrento.
The forum was attended, according to the Ministry of Local Government, by the Libyan Ambassador to Italy, “Muhannad Younis,” the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation, “Khaled Suwaisi,” the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Local Administration, “Nasr Al-Mahtout,” and the Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Organization Affairs, “Shadia Oribi,” in the presence of representatives of more than 23 countries.
The forum aims to build and promote a new vision for southern Italy in the central maritime region, and to emphasize the importance of cooperation and peacebuilding in the Mediterranean region.
In the context of his speech during his participation in the forum, Al-Toumi provided a comprehensive explanation of Libya’s experience in the transition project towards decentralization, highlighting the successes achieved by the National Unity Government in activating municipalities, enabling them to manage their various specialties, to collect and exploit their local financial resources, and granting them a high degree of administrative independence and finance.
Al-Toumi pointed out the importance of providing funding for investment operations in the southern Mediterranean, whether in infrastructure, transportation, education or health, calling for the need to strengthen trade cooperation and benefit from the “MATI” initiative and develop implementation plans for it to ensure the achievement of its goals.
