Tripoli, February 14, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity, “Mohamed Aoun,” today, Wednesday, briefed the President of the Presidential Council, “Mohamed Al-Manfi,” on the latest developments regarding the Hamada oil field, in the presence of the Directors-General of Legal, Planning, and Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Oil and Gas.

The Council's media office stated that "Aoun" reviewed with the President of the Presidential Council the work of the Ministry of Oil, the overlapping competencies between the Ministry and the Supreme Council of Energy, and the steps currently being taken by the government to develop the Hamada oil field through a coalition of a number of foreign companies.

According to the media office, Aoun indicated that the political agreement does not allow the executive authority to sign long-term agreements or treaties during the transitional period, stressing the availability of the technical capacity and capabilities of national companies to develop this field.

Al-Manfi, for his part, stressed the need to give priority to national companies working in the oil field to develop the field, stressing that the percentage provided by the coalition of foreign companies is very large and exaggerated and is considered a neglect of public capabilities, a violation of the national legislation in force and a clear violation of the provisions of the political agreement.

He directed the necessity of implementing what was stated in the letters sent by the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, the Attorney General, and the Audit Bureau regarding not obligating the Libyan state to bear any future burdens during the current transitional phase.
