Al-Koni meets Batili.

Tripoli, February 1, 2024 (LANA) - The UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, briefed the representative of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, today, Thursday, on the meetings he held recently with the political parties to bring their viewpoints closer together in order to get out of the political impasse and create the conditions for holding the electoral entitlement.

The media office of the Presidential Council reported that during the meeting, the latest developments in the situation in Libya were reviewed, and ways to support the political process that paves the way for holding elections. Batili affirmed his support for the viewpoints of the political parties that aim to achieve stability, and that he will strive to continue communicating with them to urge them to establish stability. Libya is one of her first concerns.

According to the office, Al-Koni praised the efforts made by Batili to achieve stability in Libya, stressing the Presidential Council’s support for the UN mission’s efforts and calling on Batili to hold a national dialogue between the Libyan parties to come up with recommendations that contribute to achieving the aspirations of the Libyan people to hold fair elections in accordance with fair laws.

The media office explained that the meeting touched on the situation in the regions of the south that suffer from instability due to the low level of services, and the waves of displacement of migrants from neighboring countries as a result of the fragile situation at the border crossings, which will have major repercussions on Libya, as Al-Koni confirmed in this regard the urgent need to support efforts to secure the borders, limit the flow of illegal immigrants before they reach the northern regions, and combat organized crime to ensure stability in the south and bring about spatial development there.
