Discovery of a new archaeological site in the Al-Assah area.

Tripoli, January 27, 2024 (Lana): The Tourism Police and Antiquities Protection Authority announced the discovery of a new archaeological site in the Al-Assah area.

In a statement, the authority detailed on its Facebook page that information was received by the Border Guard Authority from the Tourism Police regarding the discovery of a suspected archaeological site in the Al-Assa area.

The Authority added that the Zuwara branch of the authority was notified, a report was filed in this regard, and two patrols from the Border Guard and Passport Investigation “Al-Assa Border Sector,” accompanied by an archaeologist, were dispatched to the location, along with a patrol from the Zuwara Passport Investigation Department and an archaeological researcher. Upon preliminary examination, the site was confirmed to be of archaeological significance.

The authority indicated that all legal measures have been taken, and members of the Tourist Police have been assigned to safeguard the site against vandalism and theft.
