The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government forms a central committee to follow up on the situation in the municipality of Zliten due to the rise in groundwater levels.

Tripoli, January 23, 2024 (LANA) - Today, Tuesday, the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, formed a central committee headed by the Minister of Local Government to follow up on the conditions of the municipality of Zliten due to the rise in groundwater levels, address the repercussions, and help citizens to confront them.

The committee’s membership includes - according to its formation decision - the Director General of the Housing and Utilities Project Implementation Agency, the Chairman of the General Company for Water and Sanitation, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tripoli Public Services Company, the Director General of the National Center for Disease Control, and the Director General of Environmental Sanitation at the Ministry of Local Government.

Last Saturday, Al-Dabaiba inspected the municipality of Zliten to identify the areas affected by the rise in groundwater levels in a number of stores in the municipality, and listened to the people of the affected areas, and issued his instructions to quickly pay attention to treating this crisis and communicate with consulting offices specialized in this field to study and develop solutions. It is noteworthy that the Libyan Emergency and Rapid Response Committee had warned yesterday, Monday, of the consequences of what would happen in the coming days as a result of the increasing swelling and penetration of groundwater underground in the Zliten area, which led to the emergence of a huge rainwater pipe from deep in the ground.
