The launch of the activities of the Second International Conference on Food and Nutrition in the city of Nalut
Pulbished on:Nalut, December 17, 2023 (LANA) - The activities of the Second International Conference on Food and Nutrition, organized by the college in cooperation with the Libyan Society for Food and Nutrition, were launched this Sunday morning at the Faculty of Medical Technology - Nalut University, under the slogan “Food manufacturing, safety, and consumer protection between reality and ambition.”
Professors and those interested in food processing from a number of Libyan universities will participate in the conference, in addition to external participation from Australia, Malaysia, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria.
During the two-day conference, a number of scientific and research papers will be presented, which aim to contribute to the development of the food industry in Libya by keeping pace with scientific development and spreading food culture to increase consumer awareness and understanding of the danger of food commodities that do not conform to standard specifications and their effects on public health.
Following the opening ceremony of the conference, the working sessions began, where Dr. Naji Al-Hadi Aburas, a member of the university faculty at the College of Medical Technology, Nalut, presented a scientific lecture entitled “The effect of the presence of bromine elements and the total intrinsic solids content on the quality and safety of drinking water treated with ozone, in which he discussed the importance of water for human life and all creatures living on planet Earth.
The lecturer pointed out that 75 percent of the Earth's surface area is water, 97 percent of this percentage is non-drinking water, and 2 percent of this water is ice, meaning that it is what is used of this water on the surface of the Earth, is only 1 percent
Dr. Aburas called for the necessity of conducting the necessary analyzes and tests on bottled water in factories to determine the percentage of bromine in it and to know the characteristics of bromine in it, some of which have a significant impact on human health and which can lead to incurable diseases such as tumors, for example.
Professor Wael Suleiman Al-Saghir from Al-Naseem Foodstuff Industry Company presented a research paper entitled “Preserving cow’s milk from production to consumption” in which he discussed the ways and methods that must be taken to reach good milk to the consumer through the combined efforts of all parties involved in the manufacture of milk and its derivatives, starting from The breeder who raises cows and pays attention to the general cleanliness of the cow breeding pens and to the consumer.
The researcher explained in his paper that there are approximately 76 thousand cows in Libya, according to official statistics, distributed throughout the country.
The researcher urged the milk collection and transportation centers to pay attention to them by conducting the necessary analysis to ensure the quality of the production and then transporting it in the best conditions.
He also called for the importance of providing the serums and medications that breeders need to maintain the quality of natural milk that factories need to implement their production plans.
On the sidelines of the conference, the accompanying exhibition was opened, which included the participation of a number of companies and factories working in the field of nutrition and food
The exhibition also included some of the crafts and food industries for which the city of Nalut and the mountainous regions are famous.
The conference aims to identify the problems facing food manufacturing in Libya and find possible solutions to them, and evaluate the regulatory situation on food goods and products in Libya, with attention to the quality of drinking water and improving the water supply involved in food manufacturing in terms of health and microbiological quality.
The conference also aims, through the research papers presented, to raise awareness about identifying and codifying the use of food additives according to national controls and what is new globally in this regard, and to introduce the role of the nutritionist and the importance of nutritional treatment for patients and consumer protection through the introduction of laws and legislation that would guarantee the consumer’s right to obtain healthy and safe food. .
