The resolution adopted by the General Assembly to cease fire in Gaza was consistent with the same resolution adopted by the Arab Group, El-Sonni says.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, 13 December (Lana): The Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, affirmed that the resolution adopted by the General Assembly Tuesday evening to cease fire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons was consistent with the same resolution adopted by the Arab Group headed by Libya in this regard.
“With Libya’s continued efforts to support the unified Arab and Islamic position to stop the aggression in the Gaza strip, and after the failure of the Security Council days ago to adopt the Arab resolution submitted for ceasefire on Tuesday evening in the General Assembly, this same resolution was adopted by Libya with a majority of 153 votes, 23 abstentions, and 10 rejections,” El-Sonni said in a tweet.
El-Sonni considered this result an important shift in the positions of many countries in the world towards attacks on Gaza and also in response to the call of the Secretary-General, his activation of Article 99 of the UN Charter, and his request for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
"What is important now is to implement this resolution on the ground and hold the perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity," he added.
