Benghazi, 13 December 2023 (Lana) The two Vice-Speakers of the House of Representatives (HoR), Fawzi Al-Nouri and Misbah Douma, met yesterday with the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily.

Belihaq said in a statement on his Facebook page that the meeting discussed the latest developments in the political situation in the country and the Libyan and UN efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis and move forward to hold presidential and parliamentary elections.

Belihaq stated that Al-Nouri and Douma presented a number of observations and advice to the UNSMIL in order to take into account the reasons for the success of its efforts and the Libyan leaders to reach a solution to end transitional stages and find realistic, consensual, and legal solutions that lead to holding the elections in a way that achieves the will of the Libyan people.

Belihaq added that the meeting also included delivering a clear message about the position of the HoR on Bathily’s proposed initiative that it be among the institutions approved by the Constitutional Declaration and its amendments, and that any position representing the institutions can only be through them and not through the positions of individuals.
