The Ministry of Local Government explained on its Facebook page that the meeting discussed the latest developments in the assessments of the damage in the city of Derna that occurred to the infrastructure as a result of the floods and torrents that recently struck the city, which are being implemented by the World Bank, in terms of the duration and comprehensiveness of these assessments, their extent of consistency, vision and aspirations. the government.
The Ministry explained that Al-Toumi stressed the need for cooperation between the government and the World Bank regarding reviewing the evaluation results with the government’s specialized technical teams immediately after issuing the initial draft of the evaluation.
Al-Toumi reiterated his emphasis on the importance of seeking assistance from international partners in the reconstruction process of Derna and the necessity of developing a solid plan for this, highlighting the necessity of subjecting the various stages of reconstruction to oversight to ensure adherence to specifications and sound implementation.
The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the work carried out by the government in the city of Murzuq, where Al-Toumi explained that the work teams are currently preparing to carry out urgent light maintenance for partially damaged citizens’ homes according to the classification of the specific damage rates, and to rehabilitate the infrastructure with regard to the electricity, water and sewage networks. Health care and other works that would contribute to achieving a safe and comfortable return for the displaced.
For his part, the head of the US Agency for International Development mission, John Cardence, praised the efforts of the National Unity Government as well as the technical teams in resolving all the problems and challenges and the remarkable progress that serves the reconstruction of the affected cities, according to the Ministry.
