In the presence of Al-Dabaiba, the Ministry of Justice commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 11, 2023 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government participated, on Monday, in the celebration held by the Ministry of Justice on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the issuance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which falls on the tenth of December.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Justice held a dialogue symposium entitled (The Ministry of Justice’s efforts to promote and protect human rights), which was attended by the Minister of Justice, the President of the Supreme Court, and a number of ministers, undersecretaries, and directors of departments and offices concerned with human rights in various ministries, public bodies and institutions, in addition to a number of Ambassadors of friendly countries and representatives of international organizations operating in the country.
Minister of Justice Halima Al-Boussifi affirmed the commitment of the National Unity Government to protect and respect human rights, and the Ministry’s efforts to ensure that everyone enjoys their basic rights.
She said that the Ministry of Justice, as the one entrusted with enforcing the law, works in cooperation with the judiciary to ensure respect for human rights, especially the right of citizens to litigation and a fair trial.
She affirmed her rejection of selective justice, and that crimes and violations will not go without investigation or trial unless they are part of a comprehensive national reconciliation that meets the aspirations of all Libyans.
The Minister referred to the steps taken by the Ministry in this context, including the establishment of the National Human Rights Committee, the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, and the National Mechanism for Preparing the National Report, as well as the Ministry’s efforts to promote women’s rights and participation in public life, and protect the rights of inmates in correctional and rehabilitation institutions.
Participants in the session reviewed a number of research papers that addressed the efforts of the national mechanism for preparing national reports and the work that has been accomplished, as well as the efforts of the human rights monitoring and documentation team at the Ministry of Justice.
