Bathily briefs Al-Menfi on the latest developments in holding a Libyan meeting.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 5, 2023 (Lana) President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, received in his office yesterday the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of UNSMIL, Abdoulaye Bathily.
Bathily commended the Presidential Council and the steps it is taking to consolidate stability and provided a briefing on the latest developments regarding efforts to hold a Libyan meeting to reach the elections.
According to the communication office of the Council, Al-Menfi stressed the council’s strategy of reconciling the Libyan parties through policies of positive neutrality and supporting active participation in the dialogue in an expanded manner to create the greatest consensus, enhance stability, and prevent the return of sharp political polarization.
Bathily said that Al-Menfi demanded during his meetings with regional and international partners during COP 28 the support of all in favor of my initiative's implementation, regarding the outstanding controversial issues regarding electoral laws.
“I was received by Mohammad Al Mnefi to further consult on the political process and coordinate regarding the upcoming preparatory meeting of the representatives of major Libyan stakeholders,” Bathily said in a tweet.
“We agreed on the necessity to exert all efforts to realize, once and for all, a resolution to the remaining contentious issues to enable elections in fulfillment of the expectations of the people of Libya,” Bathily added.
