Local Government Minister discusses, with the Deputy Special Representative of the UNSG, the executive steps for the reconstruction of the city of Darna.

Tripoli, November 29, 2023 (LANA) - Minister of Local Government - Head of the Emergency and Rapid Response Team, Badr al-Din al-Toumi, in Tripoli, reviewed with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Humanitarian Coordinator, Georgette Gagnon, the executive steps in the recovery and reconstruction operations of Darna city, as well as efforts to build peace and return life to normal in the city of Murzuq.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the work being carried out in the city of Murzuq were discussed by carrying out urgent light maintenance on partially damaged citizens’ homes and rehabilitating the infrastructure with regard to the electricity, water and sanitation networks.

Regarding the reconstruction of the city of Darna, the team leader called for the importance of seeking international partners in the reconstruction process and the necessity of having a solid plan for the reconstruction of the city.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed her appreciation for the efforts made to deal with the crisis in Darna.
