Libyan-European discussions on strengthening relations, combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

Tripoli, November 28, 2023 (LANA) - A Libyan-European talks session was held in the capital, Tripoli, today, Tuesday, which focused on strengthening relations and combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

This came during the reception of the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity, "Abdulrahman Khammada", with a delegation from the European Union Commission headed by "Stefano Tomat", Commander of Civil Operations of the European Union Commission, who is conducting an official three-day visit to Libya.

  The meeting discussed - according to Foreign Ministry sources told the Libyan News Agency - a review of bilateral relations between the State of Libya and the European Union and ways to strengthen them in various fields, especially in the field of combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

During this meeting, a visual presentation was presented about the land borders and the efforts made by the competent Libyan authorities in the field of combating the phenomenon of illegal immigration.

The sources explained that the European official praised the efforts made by the Libyan side, explaining the desire and readiness of the European Union Commission to cooperate with the Libyan side and provide the necessary assistance and support to the competent Libyan authorities to confront this phenomenon.

In turn, the Director of the Department expressed the aspirations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to strengthen friendly relations and bilateral cooperation with the European Union to confront the repercussions left by the migration phenomenon, stressing at the same time that the European Union is considered an important and essential partner for the State of Libya in its efforts to combat illegal immigration.
