Al-Sunni: Libya chairs the conference to establish a Middle East region free of nuclear weapons.

New York, November 15, 2023 (LANA) - On Tuesday, Libya assumed the presidency of the fourth session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Region Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction in the presence of the President of the General Assembly and the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs.
According to what the Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, said through his account on the “X” platform, during the first day of the conference, general discussions were launched with the participation of member states, observer states, and representatives of relevant specialized organizations.
Al-Sunni explained, in a speech on the occasion, the extent of the violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces, pointing out that this entity has always ignored all UN resolutions and has not respected international agreements and laws, even with regard to special agreements related to the disarmament of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, and the matter has even reached the stage of threatening to use nuclear weapons, as happened recently by officials of the occupation forces in threatening to use nuclear weapons against the Gaza Strip.
Al-Sunni said, “This matter is reprehensible, and we will work during our presidency to formulate a unified position in this conference against these threats.”
