Al-Hawaij meets Italian ambassador and stresses the importance of activating the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship and Partnership of 2008.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, November 09, 2023 (LANA) - The Minister of Economy and Trade, “Mohamed Al-Hawaij,” called for the importance of activating the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship and Partnership concluded between Libya and Italy in 2008 .
This came during his meeting, Wednesday, morning at the Ministry’s office in Tripoli with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, to discuss aspects of cooperation in the fields of economy and investment and the mechanism of networking between business owners in both countries.
During the meeting, Al-Hawaij also called on Italian companies to resume work on infrastructure projects contracted with Libya, the most important of which is the international road linking Amsaad - Ras Jedir, according to what the ministry published on its official Facebook page.
The Minister stressed the importance of joint cooperation with the Republic of Italy based on a long-term strategic vision, adding that Italy is one of the most important trading partners of the State of Libya in the European Union region.
Al-Hawaij called on the Italian side to prepare the necessary arrangements to convene the joint Libyan-Italian committee and organize meetings that include the Ministry of Economy and Trade of the Libyan government and its counterpart in the Italian government to develop a common vision that defines the frameworks for bilateral cooperation between economic and commercial institutions in a way that contributes to increasing the volume of trade and investment between the two countries.
The Minister also praised the cooperation efforts between the two countries in the fields of communications, electricity, and transportation, and the inauguration of direct flights between the two countries under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity and his counterpart in the Republic of Italy, noting the importance of activating the role of the joint Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce to support companies and business owners dealing in the two countries.
In turn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy expressed the desire of the Italian government to enhance cooperation with the State of Libya in areas of common interest, and the keenness of Italian companies to resume their work in the State of Libya and complete the contracted projects, noting that the joint Libyan-Italian Chamber of Commerce is working to organize the Italian Industries Agents Exhibition in its second edition, in the Tripoli International Fair, in coordination with the General Exhibitions Authority of the Ministry, and also holding the Libyan-Italian Economic Forum in the capital, Rome, during the month of December 2023.
The meeting was attended by the Minister's Advisor, "Shader Al-Sayd", the Head of the Ministry's International Cooperation Department, "Faraj Al-Bey", and the Commercial Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Italy to the State of Libya, "Giacomo Grandiso".
