During the meeting, which was held at the House of Representatives headquarters in Benghazi, the two sides also discussed enhancing educational cooperation and study opportunities in Russia for Libyan students and resuming work on joint agreements such as cooperation in the field of civil safety and disaster response.
Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of the historical relations between the two friendly countries and the House of Representatives’ keenness to strengthen these relations with the Federal Republic of Russia and cooperate in all fields.
He also appreciated the Russian efforts to stop the dangerous escalation in the Middle East due to the continuation of the military operation in the Gaza Strip, according to what was stated by the official spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Belhaq.
Al-Aqouri expressed his aspiration for the Russian role in supporting the stability of Libya and removing all foreign forces and mercenaries, offering his thanks at the same time to the Russian government for supporting Libya during the Hurricane Daniel crisis, which struck regions and cities in the east of the country.
For his part, the Russian ambassador renewed his country's keenness to support Libya in holding elections, stressing that elections are the only way for the Libyan people to choose who represents them.
At the same time, Haider also expressed his happiness at visiting the Libyan House of Representatives and his country's keenness to develop its relations with Libya, especially cooperation between the House of Representatives and the Russian Duma, in a way that serves the common interest of the two friendly peoples.
The ambassador also confirmed that work is underway to open the Russian consulate in the city of Benghazi during the coming period, to follow up relations and cooperation between the two countries.
