Luanda, October 26, 2023 (LANA) - First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Head of the Parliamentary Division of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, participated in the second parliamentary summit to combat terrorism and violent extremism in Angola under the slogan “The Global Response to the Call to Save the Sahel Region.”

  The summit comes on the sidelines of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in the Angolan capital, Luanda, at a time when the Sahel region in Africa faces many security, economic and social challenges, according to the spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blehaq.

According to Blehaq, the second parliamentary summit to combat terrorism and violent extremism aims to bring together a wide range of parliamentarians around the world, the United Nations, experts from international organizations, members of regional parliamentary assemblies, and leaders of local communities, and to address the situation in the countries of the Sahel region to reduce the spread of corruption and eliminate terrorism and violent extremism. .

It also aims to bring together the different viewpoints of the Sahel crisis and its historical heritage, search for a sustainable solution, transform global efforts, global strategy and international decisions into concrete actions on the ground, enhance awareness and provide support to find an African solution to the African crisis with global solidarity.
