Libya and Bangladesh sign a memorandum of understanding to facilitate procedures for expatriate workers
Pulbished on:Tripoli, October 25, 2023 (LANA) - Libya and Bangladesh signed, on Wednesday, a memorandum of understanding to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of facilitating labor procedures and enhancing opportunities for understanding.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on the Libyan side by the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, and on the Bangladeshi side by the Minister of Expatriates Welfare and Employment, Imran Ahmed.
The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, said in a statement to the Libyan News Agency, following the signing, that the agreement stipulates organizing and counting expatriate workers, completing their legal procedures, organizing their entry, and ensuring their return to their country.
Al-Abed stressed that the memorandum of understanding will support joint cooperation, especially since this file faces great challenges for the two countries, given that there are large numbers of Bangladeshi workers who entered Libya illegally.
He added that all foreign workers have a specific legal period of their presence within the country, and therefore after the end of their work period they must return to their country to avoid problems of illegal immigration and human trafficking.
The Minister indicated that the Ministry seeks to organize the process of recruiting Bangladeshi workers through the Wafid digital platform, to ensure that workers are not exploited or exposed to fraud.
For his part, the Bangladeshi Minister of Expatriates Welfare and Employment appreciated the cooperation between the governments of the two friendly countries in many areas, including enhancing cooperation to organize qualified workers from Bangladesh to the State of Libya in accordance with the legislation and laws in force in both countries, emphasizing the role of the Ministry of Labor and what it is doing towards Bangladeshi workers in Libya.
The signing of the memorandum was attended by the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Libya and officials from the ministries of the two countries, in the presence of the Departments of International Cooperation and Laws and Treaties of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
