At a Security Council session, Libya refuses to condemn the resistance of the Palestinian people and demands an end to the aggression against Gaza
Pulbished on:New York, October 24, 2023 (LANA) - Libya affirmed, on Tuesday, its refusal to condemn the resistance of the Palestinian people and its silence regarding the continuation of the brutal Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
This came in a speech by the person in charge of managing the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Al-Taher Al-Baour, in the open discussion session held at the UN Security Council in New York on Tuesday, in which he demanded an immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression and a reversal of the decision to use force aimed at annihilation and comprehensive destruction.
Al-Baour said in his speech that the government and people of Libya condemn in the strongest terms the brutal, barbaric aggression carried out by the Zionist occupation forces on the Gaza Strip, which has so far claimed the lives of more than five thousand martyrs and thousands of wounded, in addition to hundreds of people trapped under the rubble whom civil defense teams have not been able to reach them due to the severity of the horrific bombing that aims to genocide the population of Gaza.
He called on the international community to take a clear position regarding the Palestinian right to establish its independent state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital, instead of creating a new geographical and demographic reality that would lead to the liquidation of the Palestinian issue and make us talk about the 2033 borders and the right of Gaza Strip refugees to return to their homes.
The person in charge of managing the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that the priority today is to create a safe environment for all residents of the region and an opportunity to establish a just peace and to hold the brutal Zionist occupation authorities accountable for ignoring the obligation to restrict their use of force in times of war in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention, and their responsibility to cut off fuel and water supplies, electricity and food for the besieged occupied areas.
Al-Baour pointed out that the blatant aggression against Gaza is among the falsehood of human rights slogans, asking: Where are the sermons and concern for human rights and international law, especially that we hear from countries that call themselves civilized?
The person in charge of conducting the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the peoples of the world are fully aware of the double standards and falsification of facts taking place in the occupied land of Palestine, pointing out that the painful events taking place in Gaza are only a natural result of the continuation of the apartheid policies practiced by the Zionist occupation force, which have led to the deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights stipulated in international and humanitarian resolutions and conventions.
The Arab foreign ministers held a coordination meeting in New York prior to the start of the high-level Security Council session concerned with developments in the situation in the Middle East, with the participation of the person in charge of running the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Al-Taher Al-Baour.
The meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Aboul Gheit, focused on coordinating and unifying the Arab position within the UN Security Council session held in light of the continuing barbaric Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
