General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons takes samples of 180 bodies after exhuming them from Al-Dhahr Al-Ahmar cemetery in Derna.

Tripoli, October 24, 2023 (Lana): Teams of the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons continue their assigned work mandated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to take body samples and open files for their families in cooperation with the Derna Rescue and Emergency Room.

The authority took a sample of 180 bodies, exhumed them from Al-Dhahr Al-Ahmar cemetery in Derna, and buried 81 bodies in the Hurricane “Daniel” martyrs’ cemetery in the Al-Fatayeh cemetery in the city of Derna after completing its legal aspects.

The authority stated yesterday that the total number of bodies has not been determined for the participation of all teams in several different locations in the stricken city of Derna, provided that the exact number will be known after all the bodies are exhumed by the authority and samples are taken and reburied.

The authority confirmed the continuation of its work by opening files for the families of the victims by the Family Registry Administration in Bab Tobruk area and Shiha area, where the number of files reached 632 and the number of (450) DNA samples that will be referred to the authority’s laboratories for genetic analysis and put in a database for the authority.
