Bathily meets with Al-Sayeh and reviews the implementability of the electoral laws.

Tripoli, 11 October 2023 (Lana) The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, met yesterday with the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh.

“I thoroughly reviewed with Al-Sayeh the implementability of the electoral laws, prepared by the 6+6 Joint Committee and recently approved by the House of Representatives,” Bathily said in a tweet.

Bathily highlighted the HNEC's announcement of its technical readiness to put these laws into implementation, thereby meeting the aspirations of millions of Libyans who are eager to fulfill their political rights, elect their leaders, and restore legitimacy to Libyan institutions.

“I reiterated the continued support of UNSMIL to HNEC for the full success of their challenging task of organizing elections as a step towards peace, stability, and progress in Libya,” he added.
