IOM calls for an immediate increase in funding to meet the needs of the affected areas in eastern Libya.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, October 8, 2023 (Lana): The Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, called on donors to immediately scale up funding for the necessary needs in the affected areas of eastern Libya.
Pope said in a statement published by the IOM on its website that the estimated needs of $22 million aim to accelerate urgent recovery efforts in the areas affected by Storm Daniel, noting that only 30% of the required funding has been secured.
The IOM and partners at the UN called on local authorities in Libya to facilitate a unified national mechanism to direct relief efforts and reconstruction in the areas affected by Storm Daniel.
It also called for ensuring transparency and accountability based on the objectives of assessing the situation and urgent needs on the ground.
