Gargash discusses with Bathily the latest developments in the Libyan file.
Pulbished on:Abu Dhabi, October 7, 2023 (Lana): The Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, Dr. Anwar Gargash, discussed yesterday with the UN Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, the latest developments related to Libya and the UN's efforts to find a political solution to end the Libyan crisis.
Gargash reiterated the UAE’s position for a political solution in Libya and its full support that leads to the security, stability, and unity of Libya, in accordance with the outcomes of the road map, Security Council resolutions, and the ceasefire agreement, to ensure the success of the elections and the aspirations of the Libyan people towards development, stability, and prosperity.
According to the Emirates News Agency, Gargash affirmed the UAE’s support for all regional and international efforts to pave the way for achieving national reconciliation between the various Libyan parties to serve the interests of Libya and its brotherly people, commending the efforts made by the UN in this regard.
Bathily commended the humanitarian support provided by the UAE to address Derna’s disaster, which he witnessed during his visit to the city.
According to the Agency, the meeting discussed the conditions that the Libyan people are going through in Derna and the humanitarian and environmental repercussions resulting from the hurricane that struck the city, stressing in this context that the UAE stands with the Libyan brothers and provides full solidarity with them in facing these conditions.
“The UAE, as the host of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), is fully aware of climate change challenges and is committed to playing an active role in reducing their negative impacts, which are not limited to a specific region but rather affect all parts of the world,” Gargash said.
According to the Agency, Bathily reviewed the results of his regional visits and efforts in that regard.
