The US special envoy to Libya calls for the formation of a government that will lead the country to elections

Tripoli, October 5, 2023 (LANA) - The US special envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, renewed on Thursday the call for the necessity of forming a technocratic government in Libya that will lead the country to elections.

Norland said in a press briefing on Thursday that the political process in Libya must advance, that the ground is ready for holding elections, and an agreement must be reached to form a government that ensures that the elections are held under its supervision.

He pointed out that UN envoy Abdullah Batili is preparing for a meeting of Libyan leaders to agree on a road map to go to the elections, pointing out that the United States is dealing with all Libyan leaders to reach the elections.

The American envoy called on the Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity, the House of Representatives, and the High Council of State to send their representatives to participate in the discussions that the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya is arranging in this regard.
