Tripoli, September 30, 2023  (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, issued instructions to the Head of the Government Emergency and Rapid Response Team, Minister of Local Government, Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, to take a package of measures with the aim of avoiding any human and material losses or damage, as a result of the expected weather condition in Ghat area.

Al-Dbaiba asked the emergency team, according to the government spokesman, to communicate with the Meteorological Department to follow up on the changes, and to communicate with the mayors of municipalities and shopkeepers in the Ghat and Majur area to form an operations room to follow up on any events that may result from the rainfall.

He also directed coordination with the Ministry of Interior regarding the evacuation of residents of areas near or adjacent to the valleys to prevent human damage, alerting livestock owners, assigning municipalities to clean the course of the valleys expected to flow, and addressing the Libyan Post and Telecommunications Holding Company to begin taking precautionary measures to prevent communications interruptions.

The National Center of Meteorology had warned that the far southwestern regions of Libya bordering Algeria, especially Ghat and Al-Awainat, may be affected by cells of thunderclouds, accompanied by good to heavy rains that may cause torrents and flow of valleys.
