Libya participate in the international conference to revive the United Nations Convention against Crime.

Palermo, September 29, 2023  (LANA) - Libya participates in the international conference to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which began its work in Palermo, Italy, today, Friday.

 With the participation of more than 168 countries, the Libyan delegation participating in the conference activities includes the Minister of Interior in charge, Major General Imad Trabelsi, the Minister of Justice, Halima Al-Boussifi, the person authorized to manage the duties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Taher Al-Baour, and the Consul General in Palermo, Al-Taher Akra.

It is noteworthy that the Palermo Convention is the United Nations convention against transnational organized crime. It was adopted by a General Assembly resolution on November 15, 2000.

The Convention entered into force on September 29, 2003, and three protocols were attached to it targeting specific areas and manifestations of organized crime: preventing, suppressing and punishing trafficking in persons, especially women and children; combating the smuggling of migrants by land, sea and air; and combating the illegal manufacture and trafficking of firearms, their parts and components, and ammunition.
