Tripoli, September 6, 2023 (LANA) – Today, Wednesday, the representative of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, discussed with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, the bilateral relations between the two countries, and the developments of the political process in Libya.

The media office of the Presidential Council stated that the meeting discussed strengthening local and international efforts to end the current political crisis, develop cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, development and culture, and protect Libya's southern borders, in light of the political and security developments taking place in neighboring African countries.

The deputy stressed the depth of the relations between the two countries and the importance of the Italian role in supporting a peaceful solution to the crisis, and reaching the completion of the elections, wishing the new Italian ambassador success in performing his new mission.

The deputy also renewed his call for the activation of the agreements concluded between Libya and Italy, in various fields, and the return of Italian companies to resume their work in Libya.

According to the Council's media office, the Italian ambassador praised, during the meeting, the efforts of the Presidential Council in the national reconciliation file, stressing his country's support for all the council's endeavors for consensus and restoring confidence between all political parties, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people, stressing at the same time that it is in the interest of Italy and the countries of the region to preserve the unity and stability of Libya.
