BRUSSELS, September 4, 2023 (LANA) - The announcement of the Head of the European Mission in Tripoli will be announced in due course, Peter Stano, spokesperson for the European External Action Office announced on Monday.

Peter Stano said during a press briefing in Brussels, " we will announce the new rotation of ambassadors, including our mission in Tripoli, at the appropriate time, that is, after completing all the necessary procedures.

Stano's statements came after the Libyan ambassador to Rome, Muhammad Younes, confirmed, on Sunday, the approval of the government of Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba to nominate Italian diplomat Nicola Orlando as ambassador and extraordinary commissioner of the European Union to Libya, according to what was reported by the Italian agency AKI.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation had sent a previous memorandum to the European Mission in Libya in which it rejected the nomination of Nicola Orlando as Ambassador and Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Libya.

Orlando has worked as a diplomat since 2001, was deputy ambassador to Tripoli from 2017 to 2019, and served as the Italian special envoy to Libya and previously served as his country's ambassador to Kosovo.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell Orlando, appointed a new ambassador to replace the Spaniard Jose Sabadell, whose duties in Libya ended at the end of last August.
