Tripoli, August 20, 2023 (Lana) The UN Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, stated that the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, informed him, during a phone conversation, of the outcomes of his meeting in Benghazi earlier today with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, and Leader of the National Army, Khalifa Haftar.

"I welcomed Al-Menfi’s coordination with UNSMIL in our joint efforts to promote a broad compromise amongst all Libyan actors. I also reiterated my commitment to support Libyans in working towards an agreement paving the way for the holding of inclusive and peaceful elections." Bathily said in a tweet.

"The tragic events that took place in Tripoli earlier this week and claimed the lives of innocent Libyan citizens demonstrate once more the urgent need for accountable, legitimate, and unified political and security institutions in Libya," he added.
