(Al-Koni) and (Deby) consult by phone about the events and developments taking place in Niger.

Tripoli, August 9, 2023  (LANA) - A phone call took place yesterday evening, Tuesday, between the deputy of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, and the President of the Republic of Chad, Muhammad Deby, to consult about the events and developments taking place in Niger.

The Media Office of the Presidential Council stated that the Chadian President welcomed the visions presented by Deputy Al-Koni, with the Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while receiving him in Tripoli last week.

President Deby, according to the same source, expressed his willingness to take practical steps, based on the assumption of the neighboring countries of Niger, which are not members of the Economic Community of West Africa (Libya, Chad and Algeria), mediation efforts in Niger, appreciating Libya's commitment to the issues of the region and Africa, which was demonstrated by its willingness to make efforts on the cooperation of neighboring countries, in order to reach a solution to the crisis in neighboring Niger.

For his part, Representative Al-Koni affirmed, working on everything that would, to preserve the safety and security of Niger and its people, and to restore constitutional legitimacy, without pushing the situation there into an armed conflict, which might lead to a human tragedy.

During this contact, it was agreed to continue communication and take urgent steps to immediately activate mediation by Niger's neighbors outside ECOWAS.
