Cooperation agreement between the Center for Judicial Expertise and the International Committee on Missing Persons.
Pulbished on:Tripoli July 31, 2023 (Lana) the Center for Judicial Expertise of the Ministry of Justice signed a technical cooperation agreement in The Hague with the International Committee on Missing Persons to improve standards and procedures for investigations at mass grave sites across the country.
The agreement, which was signed by Counselor Khaled Diab on the Libyan side, states that the International Committee on Missing Persons will work with Libyan stakeholders, including the Permanent Technical Committee for Mass Graves and Migration, to establish a central data system, enhance data privacy, enhance forensic capabilities, and increase the participation of families in the process of missing persons operations.
The Director-General of the International Committee, Katherine Baumburger, said that the agreement paves the way for the International Committee to help the Libyan authorities establish an impartial and effective process to determine the fate of large numbers of missing persons.
Catherine emphasized the continuation of the work carried out by the International Committee in Libya a decade ago, in addition to providing relevant agencies with tools to determine the fate of Libyans who went missing as a result of conflict and political instability, as well as migrants who went missing trying to reach Europe.
