Egyptian Minister of Electricity: We seek to increase the capacity of the link line with Libya to 2000 MW.
Pulbished on:Cairo, July 5, 2023 (Lana) The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Shaker, announced that the ministry is currently studying the possibility of increasing the link line with Libya from 150 MW to 2000 MW, pointing out that the capacities were increased last January from 100 MW to 150 MW based on the request of the Libyan side.
The minister stated in his statement to "Youm7", today that the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company is currently conducting studies to raise the voltage of the link line between Egypt and Libya from 220 kV to 500 kV.
Shaker added that the goal of the electrical interconnection projects is for Egypt to turn into a global hub for energy through interconnection with Africa, Europe, and the Gulf countries, pointing out that these projects will bring Egypt huge economic gains through the difficult process and highlighting that the electrical interconnection is being studied in the south towards the continent. Africa to take advantage of the huge potential of water energy in Africa, stressing that these projects will work to absorb the huge energies that will be generated from clean energy.
