Eni signs a memorandum of understanding for the development of sustainable energy with Libya.

Tripoli, June 08, 2023 (LANA) - The Italian oil and gas company Eni announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the aim of studying and identifying opportunities with Libya to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop sustainable energy in the country, in conjunction with the visit of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, "Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba" to Italy.
Eni confirmed in a statement that the move came in line with its strategy and the goals of the government of national unity to accelerate decarbonization and the transition to renewable energy.
Eni pledged to work to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by reducing flaring of gas resulting from the oil extraction process, as well as potential projects to reduce emissions from sectors that are difficult to mitigate.
She indicated that work will be carried out to identify additional gas resources from existing fields that can be developed as part of an integrated project for the local market and possibly for export, while evaluating new solutions for the development of renewable energy and electricity efficiency initiatives in the country.
