Nova Agency : Libya becomes the first transit country for migrants to Italy last May.

The Italian Nova news agency said that, during the first five months of 2023, Tunisia occupied the forefront of the countries from which irregular migration boats departed towards Italy, before the flows from Libya (which was the first transit platform in 2022) accelerated in the past four weeks. .
According to the agency, the total number of illegal arrivals to the Italian coasts since the beginning of the year until June 1 has reached (50,405) immigrants, an increase of (155.97) percent compared to (19,692) arrivals in the same period in 2022, at a rate of (334) arrivals per day.
The ministry’s data indicates that last month, witnessed a slowdown in the number of arrivals to Italy compared to last year, with the arrival of (7492) people in the last 30 days compared to (8720) people in May 2022, as a result of bad weather and anti-smugglers’ activities in North Africa. .
Specifically, the agency explained that (1554) of these people set sail from Tunisia and (5825) from Libya, thus overtaking Tunisia in recent weeks in terms of the number of migrants crossing its lands towards southern Italy. The Nova agency, also indicated that more than half of the new arrivals from Libya come from the eastern region of Libya.
