The Libyan Foreign Ministry welcomes the agreement to extend the armistice between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, May 21, 2023 (LANA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity welcomed the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces reaching an agreement to extend the armistice and continue the talks with the aim of a final ceasefire in Sudan.
The ministry said in a statement today that the continuation of the talks with the aim of a final ceasefire in brotherly Sudan will pave the way for humanitarian aid to reach civilians.
The Ministry expressed the optimism of the State of Libya that the brothers in Sudan will continue to respond to the efforts to calm down, and that it is hopeful that this step will be followed by other, more effective steps, foremost of which is the permanent cessation of hostilities and the start of direct talks with the participation of all Sudanese political factions and forces, in order to ensure the achievement of lasting stability and the restoration of security in the country.
The statement praised the prominent role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America in urging the warring Sudanese parties to reach this agreement.
