The Kingdom of the Netherlands opens its embassy in Tripoli.

Tripoli, May 15, 2023 (LANA) - Today, Monday, the Kingdom of the Netherlands officially inaugurated its embassy in Libya to carry out its diplomatic duties from the capital, Tripoli, in the presence of Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister Paul Hoots and a number of Libyan officials and foreign ambassadors accredited to Libya.

In a speech on the occasion of the reopening of the offices of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands today in Tripoli, Paul Hoots affirmed his country's desire to strengthen relations of joint cooperation and contribute to efforts to achieve peace and stability in Libya.

He said that his current visit to Libya aims to establish strong relations and the participation of the Libyan people and support the efforts of Libya and the United Nations to achieve peace throughout Libya, which leads to the organization of comprehensive elections, reiterating his country's support for the efforts of the Presidential Council and the African Union to achieve comprehensive national reconciliation in Libya, praising in the same context the role of civil society institutions in consolidating efforts to bring peace and stability to the Libyan people

The Dutch official stated that Libya and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have close relations of cooperation in the political and commercial fields, and they have a major role in enhancing cooperation between the African and European continents as two important gateways to enhance trade exchanges, as Libya is an entry point to Africa and the Netherlands an entry point to Europe and they look forward to consolidating the principles of freedom, peace and fruitful cooperation.

In this context, the Dutch diplomat focused on the fact that his country has extensive experience in the fields of oil and gas and the transition to renewable energies

In his speech, Hotes pointed out that the crisis situation in Sudan revealed once again that the fragile peace will not help build a solid political foundation, which requires the promotion of human rights.

For her part, the Director of the European Affairs Department, Iman Abu Al-Qasim Al-Talib, praised, in a speech on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Netherlands' desire to strengthen its relations with Libya, and appreciated the role played by the Netherlands in helping to consolidate peace and support stability and national reconciliation in Libya.

She emphasized that the visit of the Dutch Deputy Foreign Minister to Tripoli and the reopening of the Dutch embassy in Tripoli sends a strong message to the international community that Libya has become more stable, stressing the importance of completing the talks between the two countries to support the national reconciliation efforts in Libya that are led by the Presidential Council, noting the role that can be played. It is being carried out by the Netherlands and the rest of the Working Group on International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights of the International Follow-up Committee in particular.

She pointed out that the government of national unity will participate in the reception that will be organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the Libya Museum on the occasion of the Dutch National Day (King's Day), and said that this is a positive indication of the political and security stability in Libya.
