A House of Representatives committee discusses the latest report of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on alleged violations in Libya.

Benghazi, April 20, 2023 (LANA) - The fact-finding committee on violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in the House of Representatives, headed by “Youssef Al-Aqouri”, held a meeting yesterday, Wednesday, in the parliament’s office in Benghazi via virtual technology, during which it discussed the latest report of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission in Libya.

  The official page of the House of Representatives on (Facebook) stated that the meeting was also attended by a member of the committee and the representative of the House of Representatives to the International Criminal Court, Salem Al-Awjali, a member of the committee, the director of the Legal Affairs Department in the parliament, Ashraf Al-Dous, and a member of the committee, the director of the Parliamentary Policy Support and Research Office in the parliament’s office. Representative, Abdul Wahed Al-Lafi, listened to each member of the committee's briefing on the report and the extent to which its findings were accepted.

Each member of the committee also submitted, according to the same source, his recommendations and suggestions for work mechanisms regarding the report, provided that a statement will be issued at a later time that includes the committee's point of view. The meeting also discussed means of coordination with the fact-finding mission of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

It is known that the Independent Fact-Finding Mission in Libya was established pursuant to Human Rights Council Resolution 39/43 to document, in an independent and impartial manner, violations and abuses of international human rights law and international humanitarian law allegedly committed in Libya since the beginning of 2016.
