Bathily briefs the President of Niger on the UN's efforts to accelerate the withdrawal of foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libya.
Pulbished on:Tripoli 4 April 2023 (Lana) The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, discussed with the President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, efforts to establish peace and stability in Libya and the region.
Bathily said in a tweet, "In Niamey, my final stop in Libya’s southern neighbours, I had a series of meetings with Niger’s leaders, including the President of the Republic, Ministers of Defence and Interior, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss peace and stability in Libya and the region."
"I briefed President Bazoum on the progress made on the security track, including efforts to rid Libya of foreign fighters and mercenaries. I also updated him on the political developments in Libya, including efforts to hold elections this year."
President Bazoum commended the UN’s efforts to stabilize Libya at this critical time, expressing his support for the Libyan people in their quest for peace and stability.
